I have been told for years that “with that voice, you should be on the radio, or you should be a DJ” etc. I never took it seriously and did not know how to get into any of those careers anyway. I forgot all about that career and concentrated on photography, which I had been doing for a number of years. I enrolled into the Computer Networking Technology program at Ranken Technical College. As a result of receiving my Associates degree there, I was able to begin employment with a local outsourcing business and eventually became an Associate Trainer, training new hire agents in internet connectivity and customer service in order to support customers over the telephone.
There came a time that I was asked to put my voice to training modules for the company to which I jumped at the chance. I was not paid any additional salary for my efforts but the thought came to me that if I can do voice-overs for them for free, I could do them for myself and keep the money. I decided to take voice-over lessons at Clayton Studios located in St. Louis MO, learning how to interpret script, how to take care of my voice instruments, and how to promote myself. I developed a professional demo that ran on the website of the studio and it wasn’t long before I was called to audition for a local credit union and did my first 60 second radio commercial. The rest is history.
I have found a career that is fun and challenging and continue to grow clients and build my resume along the way.
